Improving Power Generation Maintenance and Reliability in South East Asia – a key challenge for OMDEC

OMDEC has been selected to provide the international expertise for a major CMMS/EAM project to improve maintenance practices, reliability and uptime in the electricity sector in South East Asia.  Working in partnership with a major Japanese engineering company under the auspices of a Japanese foreign aid program, OMDEC staff will be on site for more than 12 months out of the coming 36.  Building on work performed for the same client three years ago, this latest stage in the project is the selection and implementation of a CMMS/EAM system for a large power generation company.  OMDEC’s role is to provide the IVV role (Independent Validation and Verification) to ensure that the selection and implementation matches accepted International standards.

In this project, a mix of more than 20 coal, gas, oil and hydro power generation sites have been selected as the implementation roll-out partners.  The challenge is to understand the current business practices, map the evolution to international practice and integrate the requirements into a specification for the solution vendors.  Underlying this process is the imperative of higher uptime and more effective operating reliability, driven by rapidly escalating demand and aging equipment.  Following the selection, the OMDEC role transitions to one of supervising the planning and implementation of the solution across the fleet.

At the core of the delivery team is a prominent local technology consulting firm; also the client itself has formally identified a counterpart group to be an integral part of the team.  In leading this team, OMDEC’s mandate clearly acknowledges the responsibility for knowledge transfer in this emerging and rapidly growing region.

With deliveries in ten different countries in the past twelve months, this is further recognition of OMDEC’s truly international reputation for excellence in Maintenance Management and Equipment Reliability.
