EXAKT, a development system for condition based maintenance (CBM) optimizing intelligent agents, was created by the CBM lab at the University of Toronto through funding from MMO, NSERC and various industry members of the CBM consortium. The EXAKT agent incorporates a statistical model and a 'cost' model blending failure risk computations with cost (time) considerations. It thereby generates optimal decisions by processing condition data and events collected from the monitored physical asset. The objective of the optimization calculation can be set to minimize cost, maximize equipment availability, or to adhere to a stated reliability policy specifying a tolerable risk of failure or to a desired ratio of reactive to pro-active maintenance. Additionally the model generates a "remaining useful life" at each inspection interval guaranteeing the stated reliability objective with specified confidence. EXAKT is particularly well suited to fleets of two or more equipment units operating on a site or to B2D (business2device) applications where identical monitored physical assets have been deployed at diverse locations but which enjoy wired/wireless network/Internet/extranet connectivity.
